Extension of flexible working request

Country of implementation
United Kingdom
General short description of the innovation
As of April 2014, the right to request flexible working will be extended to all employees, who have been with their employer for 26 weeks or more. At the moment only parents of children aged less than 17 years (under 18 if the child is disabled) have the right to ask for more flexible working arrangements as well as some employees who have caring responsibilities for adults. Employees will only be able make one application within a 12-month period. Until now anyone could ask to work flexible. However, only employees with care responsibilities had a legal right to do so by making a ?statutory application?.
